Weed and AAS

I think we all know about “pot”, “ganja”, or “Mary Jane”. This ancient herb, that has been smoked, or ingested for medical, religious or recreational purposes almost since the dawn of man.

In recent years, more and more states in the world (starting with the US), have been legalizing weed… for medical use at first, with more and more states allowing even recreational use.

Besides the well known pleasant effects of THC, there may also be some negative ones such as anxiety, depression and paranoia, especially in individuals predisposed to certain mental disorders.

Anabolic steroids are basically a synthetic form of natural hormones, like testosterone. Their heavy use can also be associated with various physical and psychological side effects, such as:

  • baldness
  • impotence
  • gynecomastia
  • acne
  • cardiovascular disorders
  • anxiety
  • depression

Studies have shown that AAS can interfere with the brain reward system of cannabinoids in a way that it represses the central nervous system leading to a reduced perception of the neurological and physical effects of THC. In consequence, this can determine the user to increase THC consumption in the hope of achieving the desired effects.

Death from this combination is unlikely, however, not impossible. There is at least one documented case of an individual who died of ischemic stroke after mixed use of THC and AAS. As common stroke indicators like cardio embolism (obstructed artery due to blood clot), or thrombophilia (abnormal blood coagulation) were not found, his death could only be attributed to the AAS and cannabis concomitant use that was found in his blood tests.

In conclusion, there is little medical information on the effects of combining AAS and THC, as more studies need to done. However, findings suggest that when taking them together, the AAS have the role of repressing the cannabis effects on your brain, resulting in higher consumption, which can have adverse effects on the body.

Our advice would be to reduce cannabis intake while on your cycle, if not stop it all together, if you want to keep having optimal results and limit the occurrence of negative side effects.
