Nebivolol 101

Nebivolol is a medication that belongs to the class of beta-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Nebivolol works by reducing the workload on the heart and lowering the heart rate, which in turn lowers blood pressure.

This has made it incredibly useful not only as a medication, but also as an ancillary that can be used during AAS and fat-burner cycles to protect the heart. In this article, you will learn how Nebivolol works and why you might need it if you are a bodybuilder.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Nebivolol is a selective beta-1 receptor blocker, which means that it primarily targets the beta-1 receptors in the heart. By blocking these receptors, Nebivolol reduces the heart rate and the force of the heart’s contractions, which results in a decrease in blood pressure.

Additionally, Nebivolol causes the dilation of blood vessels, which further contributes to the reduction of blood pressure and improves erectile function.

 BENEFITS

Nebivolol has 3 main benefits that make it stand out as the best Beta-Blocker for bodybuilders…

Firstly, it decreases heart rate significantly. This makes it very useful in a harm reduction context, especially when using compounds that accelerate heart rate like Clenbuterol, Albuterol, Ephedrine and some AAS.

Secondly, it decreases blood pressure both by decreasing heart rate and by relaxing blood vessels, further protecting the heart from the negative effects of PED use on cardiovascular function.

These two benefits combined make Nebivolol an excellent tool for the prevention of heart enlargements (Left Ventricle Hypertrophy), something that many bodybuilders face and is known to be one of the leading causes of heart disease.

Finally, it indirectly improves erectile function by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow towards the penis.

SIDE-EFFECTS

While Nebivolol is mostly well-tolerated by its users, some people can experience hypotension and an abnormally low heart rate (bradycardia) if they abuse this drug or mix it with similar drugs.

Generic side-effects like nausea, dizziness, allergic reactions and headaches are also possible.

 NEBIVOLOL VS ARBs

Nebivolol is the “poster-boy” of Beta Blockers, a class of drugs that are often compared to the similar yet different Angiotensin Receptor Blockers.

How does Nebivolol compare to an ARB like Telmisartan? Which drug is better in a bodybuilding context?

In my opinion, Telmisartan is the better option when it comes to managing blood pressure and preventing heart enlargement. It also appears to be slightly safer than Nebivolol and other Beta Blockers.

Nebivolol, however, is more effective at dealing with heart rate elevations.

For that reason, I would recommend an ARB like Telmisartan to people who are just using AAS and experiencing high BP, and Nebivolol to people who are using both AAS and drugs like Clenbuterol, Albuterol and Ephedrine.

HOW TO USE NEBIVOLOL

The starting dose of Nebivolol for the treatment of hypertension is usually 5 mg per day, and this may be increased to 10 mg per day after one to two weeks if needed. The maximum recommended dose of Nebivolol is 20 mg per day but chances are you will not need to go that high.

It has a half-life of 12 to 19 hours, so you can generally take half your daily dose in the morning, and the other half in the evening.

If you intend on using Nebivolol or any other drug that can modulate heart rate and blood pressure, I highly recommend you monitor those markers on a daily basis to figure out whether you actually need Nebivolol, and to see if it is actually working as intended or not once you start taking it.

SUMMARY

To summarize, Nebivolol is an incredibly useful ancillary that can greatly diminish the side-effect of both Anabolic Androgenic Steroids and thermogenic fat-burning agents by controlling both heart rate and blood pressure.

For that reason, any serious bodybuilder who runs powerful cycles on a regular basis should buy Nebivolol and keep it on hand at all times.

William has been studying and experimenting with bodybuilding pharmacology for over 6 years. After being an independent researcher for all these years, he has decided to share his knowledge with the bodybuilding community through his science-based articles. His approach to enhanced bodybuilding can be summed up in the saying “less is more”, as he believes that prioritizing harm mitigation and looking for ways to maximize the positives is the key to longevity in bodybuilding.
