Liraglutide – the first GLP1

Before semaglutide, tirzepatide, and retatrutide took the world by storm, there was Liraglutide, the first GLP-1 receptor agonist to demonstrate that manipulating incretin hormones could dramatically improve weight loss, glucose control, and metabolic function. Marketed under the brand names Victoza and Saxenda, liraglutide paved the way for the next generation of GLP-based drugs that are now revolutionizing obesity and diabetes treatment. What Is Liraglutide?

However, liraglutide must be approached with care, as its appetite suppression can sometimes impair caloric intake during growth phases. When used intelligently, it can support leaner, more controlled progress in both off-season and cutting phases.

Side Effects and Considerations

The most common side effects of liraglutide are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort, which often subside after the first few weeks. These occur due to the slowed gastric emptying and central appetite effects. In rare cases, pancreatitis or gallbladder issues can occur, though these risks are low when monitored properly. As with all GLP-1 agonists, gradual dose escalation helps minimize side effects.
